Spain is one of the countries within the EU which has an enormous wind energy potential. The share of Renewable Energy in the electricity production was about 24% in 2008. 47% of this amount was produced by WEC.

The wind energy sector is dominated by a small amount of large national enterprises. Over 60% of the installed wind energy converters in Spain were erected by the three Spanish producers (Gamesa, Made and Acciona).
